If you are not into the sea and islands, but like to ride from Tallinn to Riga and enjoy the nature, then this is the tour for you. 

This 11 days tour takes you the most beautiful places in Estonia and Latvia: Lahemaa National Park with its nature and manor houses, the ethnic Russian Old Believers villages along the shores of Lake Peipsi, University town Tartu, Folk Music capital Viljandi, Valmiera and its famous brewery and all the way to one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the Baltics - Cesis. Then continues to Gauja National Park and Sigulda.

Day 1: Out of Tallinn to Valkla 45 km / 27,16 mi

Tour starts from Tallinn. Bike road continues 25 km all the way to Maardu and then the road takes you around the old mine to Jõelähtme. On your way is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Estonia  - Jägala Waterfall. Then you will continue towards the sea. Accommodation is in guesthouse just next to the sea. 

Day 2: Cycling to Sagadi 55 km / 34.30 mi

From Valkla, route takes you to Lahemaa National Park. On your way is one of the most important nature sights in Estonia - Viru Bog. It is great place to make a break of cycling and take a walk on one of the trails. Twisty road takes you to Palmse Manor and Park. Accommodation is in Sagadi Manor. 

Day 3: Cycling to Rakvere 40 km / 24.15 mi

Route takes you first to Vihula Manor. It is woth to make a stop to admire the views of the manor or visit the small shop selling local food. Then you will continue to town of Rakvere. Castle ruins (and activities there) and to probably the most modern town square in Estonia, are worth visiting. Accommodation in small hotel.

Day 4. Cycling to Sahargu 59 km / 37 miles
Day four takes you through Estonian forests and fields to small Sahargu village. Accommodation in B&B.

You can combine you cycling tour with bear watching. Sahargu is the pick up point for Bear Watching Tour. Tours are taking place in May-June and Sept-Oct. Night in cabin in forest.

Day 5. Cycling to Alatskivi village 68 km / 42.44 miles
Route continues to the shores of fourth biggest lake in Europe - Lake Peipsi. Cycling through authentic and unique Russian Old believers villages. Church in Raja village is worth to make a stop to admire the icons. Accommodation in guesthouse.

Day 6. Cycling to Tartu 48 or 56 or 72 km / 30 or 35 or 45 miles
Day 6 will take you to the Onion road - the area from Kolja to Varnja villages. Lake Peipsi Visitors Centre in Kolkja is worth visiting and have a cup a tea from real samovar in Aunt Shura's cafe. Then the route continues to university town Tartu. Accommodation in hotel.

Day 7: Cycling to Viljandi 81 km / 50.58 mi

Route from Tartu to Viljandi goes around the lake Võrtsjärv, second largest lake in Estonia. There is a visitors centre and watch tower on your way. Day's highlight is Viljandi’s Old Town. Overnight in small guesthouse.

Day 8: Viljandi - Koni, Latvia 68 km / 42 miles
Route continues towards Estonian border to Latvia. You will have some rolling hills on your way. After Karksi-Nuia route continues to Lilli. If you haven’t had enough of the nature, take a walk on Lilli’s Study trail. After short ride on tight road with no traffic, you will reach to Latvia. Your accommodation is about 8 km from border in Koni.

Day 9: Koni - Valmiera 46 km / 28 miles
Route goes through Rujena, whre you can spend some time to explore local shops and icecream facotry. Quiet road goes through forests and fields to your final destination that day - Valmiera. Just before Valmiera there is a small Valmiermuiza brewery, take a break to taste local beer. Next to your accommodation place is Bearfoot Nature Trail, you have to try this out! Accommodation in Valmiera in hotel.

Day 10: Valmiera - Cesis 37 km / 23 miles
Road to Cesis is not long but interesting to ride on. On the way you will see typical soviet style village called Liepa and you have some rolling hills to cross. Days highlight is bike friendly Cesis. Park your bikes to visit Cesis castle, park and beautiful Old Town. Accommodation in hotel.

Day 11: Cesis - Sigulda 50 km / 31 miles

Day 11 you will ride to one of the most known tourist towns in Latvia - Sigulda. Famous Turaida Castle and Gutmana Cave just before Sigulda are also worth visiting. Take a ride with cable car over Gauja valley, visit the Livonian Order Castle. Accommodation is in small hotel in Sigulda.


Day 12. Train to Riga. Riga ( 1hr 10 minutes + optional cycling)
Because the main road is not good for cycling (too much traffic) and the secondary road is very sandy, we do not recommend to cycle to Riga. Take a train to Latvia’s capital Riga. Admire the diverse architecture of Riga, especially the art nouveau buildings - collection that is one of the largest in the world. Talk a walk in Riga Old Town and enjoy a meal one of the many terrasses. Overnight in hotel.

Day 13: Riga and individual departure
After breakfast your bicycle tour to Estonia and Latvia ends. Leave your bikes to the hotel and have a safe trip home.
