ABOUT TRANSPORTATION

    Buses, trolleys and trams operate regularly from 6:00 to 23:30.

    • If you need to buy a ticket, enter at the front door; tickets are only sold at stops, not while the vehicle is moving. Note that tickets bought from the driver are more expensive than those bought at kiosks. The Tallinn Card holders may use unlimited public transportation free.
    • Punch your ticket right after entering at a machine located throughout the bus, trolley or tram.
    • Passengers travelling with false tickets or without tickets will be fined.
    • For a ride on a minivan pay the driver as you get in (prices approximately 10 – 15 EEK).

    TAXI

     

    It isn't environmentally the best way of moving but sometimes you just need taxi! Taxis cheating? That’s might happen! Average fare from airport to Old Town should be around 150 eek (printed cheque should show approximately 7 km). Some rules: pricelist should be on the taxi windows, so you can see it. There is special fee (usually 35-70 EEK) and then meter fare 7-11 eek per km. There can be also different charges at daytime and at night but no difference between working or weekend days. Pay only for the sum on the taximeter. If the meter is not running passenger is entitled not to pay. Estonian Kroons only accepted officially. some companies accept also CC-s. Taxi driver should print a receipt from his printer, that is only way to get right bill. Do not accept handwritten cheques. Some taxi companies:

    PARKING

    • Parking on streets in the city centre, the Old Town and the Pirita area must be paid for. First 15 minutes parking is free. You can purchase a parking ticket from a street-side machine. In some areas, tickets are sold by parking guards.
    • Parking on Old Town streets:
      24-hour paid parking
      Parking rates: 72 EEK per hour
    • Paid parking on the city centre streets vary depending where you park
    • Weekdays 7:00-19:00
      Saturday 8:00-15:00
      On Sundays and national holidays, parking is free.
      Parking rates: 16-36 EEK per hour.

    TRANSPORTATION AROUND ESTONIA 

    BY TRAIN

    • for cyclist a train is the most convenient community transport in Estonia, there are special places for bicycles (ask from the person, who sells tickets, how to use these).
    • price for transporting bicycles: it is free in some trains, in the others you have to buy between 2 and 20 EEK, depending the journey.
    • where to buy tickets:  from the train, there is a person, who walks around and sells tickets
    • If you would like to travel with bigger group by train and you all have bikes with you, then you should contact info@edel.ee and there will be organised some more possibilities to transport your bikes. Otherwise there not might be enough place.

    BY BUS

    For bus timetables in Estonia click here. For reaching to big bus station you need to take a tram number 2 or 4, (NB!) to Ülemiste. The stop you need is called "Autobussijaam".

    • it's quite complicated to travel by bus, when you have a bike with you, there are no special places for bikes - you can put your bike on only then, when you agree with the bus driver
    • the price for transporting the bike has to be agreed with the bus driver
    • sometimes there is asked to pack your bike for transportation
    • tickets are sold also from the bus, but it is suggested to buy ticket 30 minutes before the departure from the terminal (to avoid case that the bus is already sold out).
